How did you use HONEXT® for this project?
We turned to HONEXT® to build acoustic islands that improved the acoustics of Wallbox’s offices, achieving healthy sound absorption with zero emissions and a look and feel that contributes to a pleasant work environment.
What made you consider HONEXT® for building these acoustic islands?
Following our proprietary Lean2Cradle® methodology, we needed suppliers and materials that would align with our circular philosophy and that would fall under the Cradle to Cradle certification, the only one in the world that evaluates materials based on their circularity and healthiness.
«HONEXT® panels are free of toxic additives and have the largest possible negative carbon footprint. They can serve as the perfect substitutes for the wood chipboards that are traditionally used in today’s construction industry.»
Why this focus on healthy and circular construction materials?
Unbeknown to a large part of society, many of the products traditionally used in construction projects contain toxic materials and are full of carcinogenic, mutagenic, and endocrine disruptive substances. These end up negatively affecting the air quality of the spaces and generating a great impact on people’s health.
For us, it is essential to select healthy materials, without toxic substances that are harmful to people, and circular, capable of being reused in future cycles without losing value.
How does HONEXT® embody these characteristics? What made it the winning proposition?
HONEXT® perfectly matched the needs of our project and met all the requirements that we take into account for building a circular space. HONEXT® panels are free of toxic additives and have the largest possible negative carbon footprint. They are also fully circular products, as they are made of upcycled waste fibres from the paper industry. They can serve as the perfect substitutes for the wood chipboards that are traditionally used in today’s construction industry.
«We want buildings to be understood as material banks, as small urban mines, where the materials and products installed can be reinserted into a new cycle at the end of their useful life.»
How are HONEXT® and Construcía aligned when it comes to values?
Our shared commitment to a circular economy makes us go in the same direction. At Construcía we are directly aware of the transformative change that the construction sector needs to undertake, and this prompts us to seek new paths to produce a positive impact on people, society and the environment. Innovation, evolution, constant improvement and sustainability are part of our DNA, and that is something we agree on with HONEXT®.
What have been the highlights of working with HONEXT®?
The main problem we find when we are going to carry out a circular project is that there are not enough circular and healthy construction solutions as they should, and the existing ones are often hard to work with and adapt to the project’s needs. HONEXT® not only met all the material requirements but was also able to provide ad hoc product development for the project.
It has been a learning process for both parties, and both the material and the team have surprised us very pleasantly. We actively worked together to address the different needs that arose throughout the project, looking for the ideal product for the proposed construction solutions.
Will you continue using HONEXT® in your future projects?
In our pursuit of a fully circular economy, we want to be able to build an ecosystem of transformers and recuperators, and we are sure that HONEXT® will be part of it. We want buildings to be understood as material banks, as small urban mines, where the materials and products installed can be reinserted into a new cycle at the end of their useful life.
