Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) accredits the environmental excellence of HONEXT®.

Society, aware of the environmental impact of the construction industry, is pushing builders and architects to demand transparency on the environmental impact of products.

They are looking for detailed information on the sustainability of materials, the carbon footprint of manufacturing processes and the overall environmental friendliness of a product’s life cycle.

At Honext, in order to guarantee the circularity of our material, we have used the most demanding and prestigious third party certifications to show transparency and truthfulness to the market about our innovative product.

The latest certification obtained by HONEXT® Boards has been the EPD or Global EPD and in this news we explain what it is and according to which regulations it is written.

The EPD uses the Life Cycle Analysis of a product to obtain objective and verifiable information.

The Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), according to the International Standard ISO 14025, is a mechanism that accredits the environmental excellence of a product.

An EPD/PDE is a type of environmental label that does not establish minimum or enforceable requirements, but only provides information.

They are able to analyse, collect and communicate relevant environmental information throughout the supply chain, i.e. through the product’s Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), showing objective and verifiable information.

The LCA on which EPDs are based is elaborated according to the product category rules CPR, which are a set of specific rules, requirements and guidelines for the development of environmental declarations for one or more product categories of different production sectors; i.e. there are CPRs for cement, for wood…etc.

CPRs are published as a technical standard or by a recognised programme, ensuring consistent criteria for a family of products with equivalent functions.

The life cycle assessment report for the WFD of HONEXT® board production was carried out by the company Eco Intelligent Growth.

The LCA study follows the recommendations and requirements of the International Standards ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14044:2006.

The European Standard UNE-EN 15804:2012+A2:2020 has been used as the reference CPR. The scope of the study is cradle to gate.

The study was carried out using data from our factory in Vacarisses, from which we obtained data on: material and energy consumption, air emissions, discharges and waste generation.

With this information, the LCA of the production of the board has been developed, differentiating the phases of the production of the raw materials of the board, the transport of raw materials from the board to the factory, to the production of the board in the Honext factory as well as the auxiliary products necessary for its manufacture and to the transport of the board to the customers.
